This policy explains what Ludara LLC collects, why, and what we will never do. It is written to be read, not to be survived. If anything here is unclear, write to maria@ludara.ai and we will answer in plain language.
Ludara LLC, 137 Langley Road, Newton, Massachusetts 02459, United States. We are the controller of the personal data described here. The person responsible is Maria Lando, and you can reach her directly at maria@ludara.ai. Ludara LLC operates the website ludara.ai and the products A Perfect Day, A Perfect Story Map and A Family Story Map.
Our enquiry forms ask for your name and email address, and depending on the page also the name of your family or project, the languages your family reads, the occasion you have in mind, and whatever you choose to write in the message field. We use it to answer you and to prepare a price offer. Forms are delivered to us by Formspree, which passes the message to our email and holds a copy of the submission.
To build a Family Story Map we work from what you send: memoirs, letters, documents, photographs, recordings, family names, dates and places. This material often contains personal information about other people, including relatives who are living, and information about people who have died. We treat all of it as confidential. We use it for one purpose only, which is to build the map you commissioned, and we act on the instruction of the person who commissioned it.
Please only send us material you have the right to send. If a living relative objects to something being included, tell us and we will take it out.
Our public marketing pages load Google Analytics 4 (measurement ID G-SEY87L8PFW) and the Meta advertising pixel (dataset 1091224590135285). These tell us how many people arrived, roughly where from, which pages they read, and whether an advertisement led to an enquiry. They set cookies and they record a truncated form of your IP address. Our hosting provider, Netlify, keeps ordinary server logs.
This distinction matters to us, so we state it plainly.
Analytics and the advertising pixel run on our public marketing pages only: the home page, the product pages, the About and Contact pages, and the A Family Story Map pages.
They do not run on the family maps we build. A family map is private family material, and we are not willing to let an advertising network watch anyone read it. They also do not run on the hotel and book guides we build for other businesses, which are read by those businesses’ own guests.
The one map published on our own site is our own family’s, put there on purpose so that customers can see what they would be getting.
We use a small number of established services to run the business. Each sees only what it needs:
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share your enquiry or your family material with anyone else. If we are ever required to disclose something by law, we will tell you unless we are forbidden to.
We use software tools, including AI assistants, as part of how we work. They help us find towns that have been renamed, search sources in the local language of a place, check facts against the record, prepare drafts, and translate text between the languages a family reads.
A person reads and checks everything that ends up on a map. Passages quoted from a family’s own writing are never rewritten by a machine, and where a translation is needed it is made faithfully and then checked, not generated and left alone.
This does mean that material you send us may pass through those tools while the work is being done. We do not sell or license your material to anyone, including the companies that make them. We choose established providers with published privacy terms, but we cannot control a third party’s terms on your behalf, so we would rather tell you this plainly than leave it unsaid.
If you would prefer your family’s material not to be handled this way, tell us before you send anything and we will talk about what that means for the work.
Enquiries are kept while there is a live conversation and for a reasonable period afterwards, because people often come back months later. Material sent for a map is kept for as long as we host the map, which is ten years from delivery, so that we can rebuild or update it. Analytics data is kept according to the standard retention settings of the services above. If you want any of it deleted sooner, ask, and we will do it.
Wherever you live, you can ask us for a copy of what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, ask us to stop using it, or ask for it in a portable form. Write to maria@ludara.ai and we will answer within thirty days. We will not charge you and we will not treat you differently for asking.
If you are in the United Kingdom or the European Economic Area, our lawful bases are your consent for analytics and advertising cookies, the performance of a contract when we build your map, and our legitimate interest in answering people who write to us. You also have the right to complain to your national data protection authority. If you are in California or another United States state with a privacy statute, the rights above are the ones that statute gives you, and again, we do not sell personal data.
The cookies on our marketing pages come from Google Analytics and the Meta pixel. Nothing on this site requires a cookie in order to work, so you can block them without losing anything. Your browser can block or delete cookies for this site; Google publishes an opt out add on for Analytics at tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout; and Meta lets you control advertising in your own account settings. We honour the Global Privacy Control signal where your browser sends one.
Ludara LLC is registered in the United States and our founder works from Israel, so your material is handled in both countries and stored on servers operated by the providers listed above, which are principally in the United States and the European Union. If you send us family material from the European Economic Area or the United Kingdom, you are asking us to do work that requires it to travel, and by sending it you agree to that transfer.
This site is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under sixteen. Family histories naturally contain children’s names and photographs, and those come to us from the adult who commissioned the map, who is responsible for having the right to share them.
If we change this policy we will change the date at the top. If a change is significant, and we hold your email address because you are a customer, we will tell you.
